GOODRAM is a brand of storage and memory products made by the Polish company Wilk Elektrnik. The brand GOODRAM exists since 2003 and is used for mobile storage such as SSD’s and USB sticks, but also for RAM. They offer products for consumers and solutions for the industry. In addition, they have their own R&D department and quality control procedures so that the products are innovative and reliable.

The 128 GB version we received from GOODRAM costs about 28 euros in the shop at the time of writing.

The GOODRAM M1AA micro SD card we received is the 128 GB version. This version uses UHS-I interface and is only compatible with devices certified for use with SDXC or extended capacity.

Unboxing

With a blister packaging is not so much to unbox, but on the packaging we see a number of interesting things. For example, the card is specially made for laptops, phones and cameras. The card has a maximum reading speed of 100 MB/s and a lifetime warranty. However, the lifetime warranty does not apply in Austria, Germany and France, where it is 5 years.

In the blister pack we find, besides the memory card, also an adapter, so that it fits in cameras or laptops, for example.

Design

The design of the card is similar to the rest of the Micro SD cards, this of course because there is a certain form factor. GOODRAM has chosen to leave the card itself black and to print some information on it with white letters. On the back of the card is the serial number and that the card was made in Taiwan.

Performance

Synthetic benchmarks

For the synthetic benchmark test we used CrystalDiskMark. This shows that the M1AA read speeds of about 87 MB/s and write speeds of 45 MB/s. Reading speeds are about 10 MB/s higher than the SanDisk Ultra 128 GB that we used for this test. The read speeds for random data (the smaller files) are 4.5 MB/s and the write speeds are 2.28 MB/s. When the card was half full we did not see a significant drop in performance.

Sustainability

For durability we look at 5 properties:

  • Sustainable ambitions of the company
  • Durable packaging
  • Durable design
  • Energy efficiency
  • Security

When it comes to GOODRAM’s sustainable ambitions, there is little to be found on the website. However, under fire there is a heading “ecology”, in which GOODRAM explains that it is important to recycle equipment at the end of its life. For example, GOODRAM in Poland also has a certain collection point for used electronics, so that this can be recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
The packaging of the SD card is minimal, but made of plastic.
The Micro SD card is made of plastic but is very small. Where this plastic comes from and if it is recycled we do not know. What is nice is that the operating temperature is between 0 and 70 degrees Celcius. That is a fairly large range.
We don’t know anything about the energy efficiency.
Safety includes quality control, which is very good at GOODRAM. The company is ISO 9001 certified for the production and sale of DRAM modules and FLASH storage. The reason why GOODRAM started the production line in Europe instead of outside Europe in 2003 was to be able to guarantee the quality of the products.

3.5/5

Conclusion

The GOODRAM M1AA Micro SD card is a card with stable performance for a good price. The speeds are comparable to the competitors but the writing speed seems to excel. It is 10 MB/s higher than the tested competitors. There is little else to say about the reliability of the card that a lifetime warranty is given and that the design and quality control is in Europe. We like the fact that all this is in Europe, because it’s all about your data.

  • Good reading performance
  • Excellent writing performance
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Adapter included
  • Slightly more expensive than the competition
